How to Use Siri to Start Recording

5 min to read

If you’re on iPhone, you don’t have to even open Letterly, you can launch the app hands-free and jump straight into recording with Siri commands.

Here’s how to set it up and what you can do with it.

Check requirements before you start 👇

1. Confirm the basics

Before you try Siri voice commands, make sure you have the following:

  • Internet connection: Siri requires a working connection for most requests.
  • Letterly app: Ensure the Letterly app is installed and you’re logged in. If you haven’t downloaded it yet, you can get here.

2. Make sure Siri is turned on

Before you try Siri voice commands, make sure Siri is actually set up to listen on your iPhone.

Go to Settings and look for one of these:

  • Settings → Siri (or Siri & Search) → Talk to Siri → choose “Siri” or “Hey Siri” (not Off).

3. Set Siri’s language

Make sure Siri is set to the language you’ll actually speak:

  • Settings → Siri (or Siri & Search) → Language → select your preferred language.

Now you’re ready to start!

Start using Siri with Letterly

With simple voice commands:

“Hey Siri, open Letterly” – Siri opens the app on the main screen with all your notes.

“Hey Siri, start recording in Letterly” or “Hey Siri record a voice note in Letterly” – Letterly jumps straight into a new audio recording.

“Hey Siri, new note in Letterly” or “Hey Siri, text note in Letterly” – Letterly opens a fresh note ready for typing.

This lets you:

  • Open Letterly without touching your phone
  • Start a new note right away and speak or type your thoughts
  • Use it as a quick capture system for tasks, ideas, or emails you’ll polish later in Letterly

Siri doesn’t replace Letterly’s transcription or rewrite features — it just helps you get into the app faster, so you don’t lose ideas.

Why it’s worth setting up

Tiny friction kills ideas. If you need to unlock your phone, find the app, and tap around, you’re more likely to think, “I’ll do it later” – and then forget.

With Siri, capturing your thoughts in Letterly becomes a 3-second habit:

Say the phrase → Letterly opens → you talk.

That’s all you need.
